You’ve done it! Another year achieved.
Congratulations! you’ve made it through another year – a huge achievement worth celebrating. ๐ฅณ
Even if things didn’t go exactly as planned, your child is one year older and that means their brains are developing those all important executive functioning skills.
I’m want to remind you that typically, our children’s executive functioning develops slower than their peers – up to 30% slower.ย So if you have an 8 year old child, their executive functioning might be more like that of a 5 year old.ย For a 14 year old, their executive functioning might be closed to a 10 year old.ย This affects daily tasks like planing, self-regulation, following through and even listening.ย Understanding this can help shift our frustration to not being heard to empathy for your child.
The next time you’re feeling frustrated by you child, take a moment and ask yourself –ย What’s their executive functioning age?
