I don’t usually talk politics in this space, but last weekend I voted Green — and I want to tell you why.

I’ve been a strong supporter of Senator Jordan Steele-John, not just for his broader disability advocacy, but because he played a key role in getting the ADHD Parliamentary Inquiry up and running last year. His lived experience of disability, combined with his tenacity in Parliament, helped push ADHD into the national conversation — something families like ours know is long overdue.

We still have a long road ahead, but I’m so grateful for leaders who are willing to listen, learn, and act. That’s why I wanted to see Jordan re-elected — and I know many of you will understand why that matters.

On a more local (and uplifting!) note, yesterday I visited the Lyn Beazley Academy — a new school initiative for autistic students — and even got to meet Lyn Beazley herself.

The team is building an environment where autistic students can learn on their own terms, in ways that honour their strengths and support their needs. It was heartening to see such a thoughtful, evidence-based, and genuinely child-centred approach in action.

Even more exciting: there may be an opportunity for me to contribute directly — supporting parents in the school community and working alongside teachers to implement practical, research-informed ADHD strategies in the classroom. I’m hopeful about what we can build together to make neuro-affirming education a reality.  This will support research in the best way to support our neurodivergent children because Lyn is a passionate advocate.

🗓️ What’s Coming Up – May Events

Here’s where I’ll be in the coming month:

  • 14 May: Speaking at the Neurodiversity Seminar, St. Columba’s School
  • 20 May: Guest speaker at “Dads Supporting Dads” Info Night in Mandurah, supported by Relationships Australia
  • 29 May: Peel Parent Training (face-to-face) kicks off, a 4-week group series to support families of ADHD and neurodivergent kids.  (You do need to live in the Peel area to avail of this training)
  • 31 May: Heading to Albany to deliver the Parent Training Program to families in the Great Southern region  (You do need to live in this region to avail of this training).

If you would like any information on any of these events, just let me know.

As always, I’m here to walk alongside you — as a parent, as an advocate, and as someone who believes we can change the systems that too often fail our kids.
