Smartphone Restrictions in Primary Schools: A Positive Movement
There’s been a growing movement to restrict access to smartphones in primary schools, and this is fantastic news, especially for our children with ADHD. Smartphones can be a major distraction and can make it even harder for them to focus on their schoolwork and social interactions.
Why is this initiative so important? ADHD children are more vulnerable to the negative effects of smartphones. The constant notifications, the lure of games, and social media can make it incredibly challenging for them to stay focused and engaged in their school activities. We also know that their executive functioning is now as strong as their peers, so they don’t always have the ability to think through consequences of posting or reacting in a way that won’t backfire on them.
What Can You Do?
- Start Conversations: Talk with other parents about the benefits of these restrictions and share your thoughts and experiences. Reply to me if you have any questions or concerns about any aspect.
- Engage with School Staff: Discuss with teachers and school administrators how these changes can positively impact your child’s learning environment.
By working together, we can create a more supportive and distraction-free environment for all children, especially those with ADHD while they are still in Primary School.
Update on Vyvanse Shortage in Australia
I wanted to provide you with an important update regarding Vyvanse, a medication that many families with ADHD rely on. Here’s the latest:
Since May, the demand for certain Vyvanse strengths has been much higher than usual. This high demand is likely a temporary adjustment period (due to the unavailability earlier in the year), but it has led to anticipated shortages of Vyvanse 20mg and Vyvanse 60mg.
Key Points:
- Vyvanse 20mg will have limited availability from late June until mid-August.
- Vyvanse 60mg will have limited availability from late August until mid-October. Please consult with your child’s healthcare provider to discuss any concerns or possible alternatives during this period.
