What’s Your Backstory, And What Inspired You To Become An Educator?
We moved from Ireland to Australia with my two young boys who were 2 & 4 in 2008.
When my oldest son started Kindy, I stayed at home full time for the first time as a parent. Previously, my husband had been at home for 3 years when we were in Ireland. As a new parent, I found that the parenting role is the most difficult role I had ever done!
While taking care of my son, it became evident that my son was not finding school easy, and I started looking for answers.
At first, he was diagnosed with dyslexia and then in year 3, it became evident that there was something else there.
He was flagged by an education psychologist to have ADHD.
I went to talk to his year 4 teacher to see how the school could support him. It became evident that the school had no knowledge and insufficient resources.
I walked away from that meeting determined to learn myself. I enrolled in a Master of Education shortly afterwards.
