School Holidays are coming!

As your child limps or sprints to the end of the week, it’s time to think about how you can manage school holidays.

Here are some ideas:

NEW – Parent/Child Workshop – October 5th, 2024 (Perth)

We’re thrilled to announce a face-to-face workshop in partnership with Strength Heroes on October 5th in Perth.

We all want our kids to bounce back when things don’t go their way but it’s not always easy to know how to help.  Join me while your children are entertained.

I’ll be presenting practical strategies to nurture our children’s resilience.  While you gain new insights, your children will be having fun, being creative and learning by stealth!!

School holidays can be stressful I know.  Some tips to think about:
  1. Keep a Loose Routine
Holidays are for relaxing, but having a bit of structure helps kids with ADHD feel secure. Plan a basic daily routine with some chill time and fun stuff—but don’t stress if things change.
  2. Get Them Moving
Help your child burn off energy with outdoor activities like going to the park, swimming, or bike rides. Physical activity helps keep their emotions and behavior in check.
  3. Don’t Expect Perfection
Some days will be harder than others, and that’s okay. Set simple goals for each day, and don’t worry if things don’t go perfectly.
  4. Manage Time blindness
Read this short article how using a physical calendar 📆 will help your child with time blindness.
  5. Give Lots of Praise
Celebrate the good stuff! Whether it’s good behavior or a small victory, positive reinforcement can boost their confidence and make them feel proud.
  6. Plan for Chill Time
Make sure your child has some downtime, whether it’s reading, watching a movie, or just relaxing. A break from activities is just as important.
  7. Let Them Choose
Offer your child choices during the day. Whether it’s picking between two activities or snacks, it gives them a sense of control and avoids power struggles.
  8. Keep Social Connections
Set up a playdate or a virtual hangout with friends. It’s important for kids to stay connected and avoid feeling bored or lonely.  However, it’s also really common if they don’t want to hang out with anyone!
  9. Embrace the Mess
Don’t worry about getting messy! Let your child dive into activities like painting, building, or playing with sensory toys. It’s fun and therapeutic.  If you can’t stand the thought of mess in your home and live in Perth, check out the new Maker Space which opened in Floreat.  https://strengthheroes.com.au/upcoming-workshops
  10. Take Care of Yourself Too
Make sure to sneak in some self-care. A little “me-time” helps you stay calm and patient throughout the holidays.  This is probably the most important and should be top of you list!!
